Two-Week Countdown

My planned departure date is July 6th, about two weeks to go. I still have a ton of preparations to see to – stocking up on supplies, getting the truck ready, and plenty of people to say good-bye to. Even though I’m only going to be gone a month, rarely do I ever go that long without seeing my close friends and family, so I want to be sure I get in as many hugs, high-fives, and handshakes as possible.

In honor of my pre-trip 2-week countdown I figured I would post a list of my planned stops from beginning to end*. Each link should take you to a page where you can find out more about that stop. Many of the cities here I may only spend a night in, and most of the parks are where I will be camping along the way:

New Stuff

Just a quick post to track some of the changes I made to the site:

Added my “List of Supplies” to it’s own page so I can update it easier, which I also did.
Added a new page “Track me Down” which will display my path, will be updated about once a day when I get on the road.
Updated the map in the “About” page.

Just a small update, but much more to come soon!

The days are flying by, so much to do in so little time.

Being Productive

Updated the map today with an adjusted route and added some placemarks for sites to see along the way, although this probably will change again (click to see the big picture):

Stilll haven’t found many places worth stopping in just about the entire right-half of the country, not sure what’s up with that… From Philly all the way to New Orleans the trip is getting pretty well planned out, but after N’awlens I am completely winging it. Not much to do in Illinois and Iowa either, I guess that’s when I’ll be doing most of my driving.

Also, I added a Flickr feed to the main page – this is where my latest cell phone pictures will show up, in case you are just dying to know what the last thing I did was. Pictures from a real camera will go onto the ‘Pictures’ page, probably sorted out by what state they were taken in.

Seattle Out, Austin In

My two main reasons for including Seattle on the trip were to see the Space Needle, and that it is the birthplace of some legendary bands that I grew up listening to – Nirvana and Pearl Jam to name a few. But despite all that, I’ve decided to include Austin, TX. on the journey, leaving me with little time to make the trek to Seattle.

Instead, my first stop on the West coast will be Portland, OR, then a straight show down the coast. Also, I added Craters of the Moon National Park to my list of stops, hoping to camp there overnight - it’s a park that looks like the moon, how awesome.

Edit: Also adjusted route to not include Montana, instead going straight through Yellowstone Park, more time in Wyoming.

This blog used to be a way to track my progress on building our iPhone app for www.grubbyfood.com - but no longer! (Although that project is still going strong!)
